Abode has designs on Aldi

Manchester architectural practice, Abode Architecture, has been named as lead architectural practice on Aldi’s internal store remodels for Cheshire, Liverpool, the Western coast and North Wales, as the UK’s fifth largest and fastest growing supermarket rolls out its new store formats.

As part of Aldi’s £300m investment to upgrade all existing stores to its new format by the end of 2021, Abode Architecture is now overseeing the internal remodelling more than 40 Aldi stores across Liverpool and North Wales. The new store format ensures more in store space for Aldi’s fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges as well as simpler layouts, improved fixtures and brighter aisles in store.

Abode opened new offices in Spinningfields earlier this year and has been working with Aldi on the roll out of the new look stores for more than two years.

As well as designing new merchandising layouts and the positioning of new elements in store, Abode has worked on modifying and updating fixtures and fittings. This has included custom designs for the supermarket’s Beers, Wines and Spirits and Health & Beauty ranges, as well as new lighting for the store.

Commenting on the project, director of Abode Architecture, Joe Mayoh, who has worked with Aldi since 2016, said: “We are a small, talented practice and the Aldi business is a great demonstration of the high quality work we can deliver. Grocery retail is moving at a fast pace and it’s exciting to be involved with Aldi as it continues to expand and develop its store portfolio across the North West and North Wales.”
