Work underway to build 200 new homes in Brough

The construction phase of a project that will see 200 new homes built in Brough is now underway, after preparatory land raising and infrastructure work was completed.

Barratt Homes Yorkshire East is erecting a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses at the Harrier Chase development in the east of the town, on the south side of the Hull-to-Selby railway track.

The new properties will range from starter homes to detached executive houses and will be in easy reach of new amenities which are also being built as part of the project.

As well as the residential buildings, the £200m Brough South development includes a new primary school, healthcare facilities, a supermarket, a range of other shops, family restaurants and space for local businesses to set up and grow.

Ian Hodges, managing director of the Horncastle Group PLC – the developer responsible for the scheme – described the start of residential construction as a ‘milestone’ in the history of the development.

He said: “A huge amount of work has been completed to get us to this point, both in terms of designing and planning the development and significant infrastructure and land raising work.

“To see that work culminating in new homes emerging from the ground will be fantastic, and an opportunity for local people to finally see this exciting development take shape.”

Steve Mattinson, construction director at Barratt Homes Yorkshire East, echoed Mr Hodges’ thoughts, saying: “We’re delighted to have broken ground at our new Harrier Chase development in Brough, it is a significant moment in the creation of the site.

“As well as building new homes for the area, it’s fantastic that our development has helped to ensure a new school and other much needed public amenities will be put in place for local people. We’re looking forward progressing with the build and watching the new development take shape over the coming months.”
