International denim brand to launch at intu Metrocentre

International denim brand G-Star RAW is coming to Gateshead as part of its UK-wide expansion strategy.

The company has agreed terms with intu, the shopping centre group, for a new store at intu Metrocentre.

The shop will span 2,454 sq ft and follow a similar launch at intu Lakeside, near London.

G-Star RAW also operates a store at Manchester’s Arndale shopping complex, which is jointly owned by intu and property firm M&G Real Estate.

Mary Doumtsi, G-Star RAW’s UK general manager, said: “We are really excited to bring the G-Star RAW brand to intu Metrocentre.

“This is a really important market for us and the beginning of our retail expansion in the UK. We hope customers across the North East of England connects with our innovative and sustainable approach to denim.”

Kate Grant, intu’s regional managing director for the North, said: “Our flagship destination offers retailers high footfall combined with long dwell time, that’s why we’re seeing more and more retailers like G-Star RAW open their biggest and best stores here and have the confidence to invest in these stores for the long term.

“For the shopper, intu Metrocentre is a day-out destination where they can eat, shop and be entertained all under one roof.”

G-Star RAW’s intu Metrocentre store will open later this month.
