KAREN HEADS TO KERALA FOR CHRONICLE SUNSHINE FUND
Karen Richardson of Karen Richardson Financial Services is downing tools this week as she heads to Kerala in India to trek with Traveleyes to raise funds for North East Children with disabilities.
Karen and thirteen other women, including Gordon Brown Law’s Amy Whyte, are trekking across the country to raise funds for The Chronicle Sunshine Fund.
As the team set off today it is the culmination of months of fundraising, and Karen is delighted to have raised over £2000 so far towards the total which is anticipated to be over £40,000.
She has done this through various events including bag packing, collections at events, donations from friends, family, colleagues and clients; and through a highly successful quiz night.
Karen, who regularly supports The Chronicle Sunshine Fund as she admires the work they do with disabled children across the region, said:
“The trek will take our group through the Letcmi Hills, evergreen shola forest, montane forest, grasslands and the ridges of Western Ghats, reaching the two highest peaks in South India and the highest tea estate in the World.
“Even though we are already doing a great thing by raising funds for such a worthwhile charity, joining us will be a group of visually impaired holiday makers. Each day I will accompany a blind or partially blind independent traveller, guiding and describing the sights, for up 8 hours each day. This will open up Kerala to my intrepid visually impaired traveller who will be able to share and enjoy the experience.
“Thank you to everyone who came to the quiz night and to the hosts, the Rahki Restaurant in Seaton Burn. We had some fabulous winners on the night, who walked away with amazing prizes such as a signed Falcons Rugby shirt!”
Karen is still raising funds whilst she is away on the trek until 30th October. You can support her challenge by making a donation to Karen’s just giving page under Kazatrekskerela.
Lauren Thomson of The Chronicle Sunshine Fund said:
“A huge thank you to all the ladies trekking, and raising such an amazing chunk of money for us that will make a huge difference to the lives of children with disabilities in the North East by enabling us to purchase equipment to meet their specialist needs”
