Sunderland named as the second most expensive place in the UK to sell a home
Sunderland has the second highest estate agent fees in the country with traditional estate agents taking on average 1.33% of the final house sale value, 0.23% more than the national average of 1.10%.
According to data from estate agent comparison site NetAnAgent, traditional estate agents in Sunderland charge the highest fees in the North of England and second highest in the country with London the only city with higher fees (1.7%).
Rival city Newcastle has one of the lowest fees in the country with agents taking only 1.06% of the final house sale value. Sunderland is also one of the only cities in the country that has saw traditional estate agents hike their fees over the past two years, rising from 1.23% in 2016 to 1.33% in 2018. An increase of over 10% on average. According to the UK Land Registry, the average price of a property in Sunderland is £141,737, meaning agents will take £1,885.10 of the property sale.
Traditional estate agents in Glasgow and Leicester charge the lowest fees in the country, averaging 0.84%. Edinburgh has the second lowest fees at 0.89%, followed by Hull 0.91% in third.
