Solar panel donation powers up homeless charity
A charity that is helping tackle homelessness by providing support and advice for those most at risk, has been given a boost.
Renewables developer, Anesco, along with key suppliers and subcontractors, has provided Launchpad Reading with a free roof top solar installation.
In total 18 solar panels have been fitted onto the roof of the charity’s newly built accommodation building. The panels will generate electricity that can be used for lighting, heating and to power appliances, helping to reduce the charity’s energy bills, while improving its carbon footprint.
Anesco, electrical wholesaler Rexel, solar equipment specialist K2 and MJ Electrical & Renewables, joined forces to make the donation, with everything from the solar panels, roof mountings and electrical accessories, to the labour and shipping, being provided for free.
Launchpad Reading supports some of the region’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Last year the charity housed and helped 206 people and provided more than 600 people with advice, guidance and support.
Ian Caren, CEO Launchpad Reading, commented: “We can’t thank Anesco and the other suppliers enough. The solar panels will make such a difference to us and the individuals we support. The donation of the solar panels will release valuable funds that we can put towards supporting even more people who are in need.”
Sarah Hitchcox from Anesco, who coordinated the donation and heads up Anesco’s charitable trust, commented: “We work with some fantastic suppliers and when we told them about Launchpad Reading and what we were hoping to do, they jumped at the chance to get involved. We’re really grateful to all of them and hope our contribution helps Launchpad Reading continue with its important work, for years to come.”
The charity’s new accommodation building has been designed by Weston & Co Architects and is due for completion in December.
