NCP Moorfields car wash cleans up for mental health charity
Kind hearted staff at NCP Moorfields car park have raised more than £700 for Liverpool-based national mental health charity, Chasing the Stigma, by rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into a regular fundraising car wash.
Since June this year parking attendants, team leaders and managers at the Moorfields site have brandished their buckets and sponges on the first Tuesday of every month, getting customer cars sparkling in return for a donation to the charity.
Chasing the Stigma is a national mental health charity committed to removing the fear and unnecessary stigma around mental health issues. It also works hard to ensure that people are able to find the help and support they need, when they need it most, through the Hub of Hope app. The charity was founded by Liverpool comedian, Jake Mills, who himself attempted suicide five years ago after struggling with depression and loneliness.
Since the Hub of Hope’s launch in July 2017 it has helped signpost more than 19,000 people to the nearest and most relevant source of help for a wide range of mental health issues. Its database of more than 1,200 organisations now makes it the UK’s most comprehensive mental health support database.
Jake Mills, CEO of Chasing the Stigma, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to all the team at NCP Moorfields for their support so far this year.
“They’ve grafted hard and raised a fantastic amount for the charity which will help us continue our mission to normalise mental health issues and help connect people to vital help and support from grassroots, local and national mental health services.
“They really have cleaned up for us so far and we appreciate their efforts and ongoing support, especially as the colder weather is setting in.”
Richard Hill, Cluster Manager at NCP commented; “At NCP we are very aware that we all need to do more to help raise awareness of mental health which is becoming an increasing problem for so many of us. Chasing the Stigma is a fantastically positive charity, set up by someone who has experienced the issues he is educating us all about now, and has seen there is a very real and immediate need to reach out to those who are seeking help.
“Our team at NCP Liverpool is delighted to do what we can to support this organisation, and as well as our monthly weekly car wash where we will raise vital funds for them, we are also hoping to get involved in much more with this incredible group in the future. We wish them every success, and look forward to working with them to help chase the stigma and show people there is always hope.”
If you or a loved one is struggling with their mental health, visit the Hub of Hope to find your nearest and most relevant source of support. The web app is available online, in the App Store and in the Play Store. It is free to download and use and also free for organisations to register.
