New West Yorkshire start-up packs a punch
West Yorkshire-based start-up, Glove & Lotus, has punched its way into the thriving leisure industry, offering a knockout new interior design service to specialist sports clubs and gyms across the UK.
With the UK fitness market estimated to be worth around £5bn and the number of gym locations across the country exceeding the 7,000 mark, Glove & Lotus owner, Moira Spencer, has launched a heavyweight new business that will benefit sports clubs and gyms here in Yorkshire and beyond.
Created by entrepreneur Moira in summer 2018, the business offers a unique proposition being one of the only design consultancies to focus specifically on the growing fitness industry. Offering a full interior design service, the new business is focused on bringing the latest trends and style directions to gyms, large and small.
From consultancy on colour selection and design services that will transform interior spaces, through to concept boards and space planning, the business draws upon 30 years of experience within the leisure sector to deliver creative spaces specific to each sport. Curated samples of paint, wallpaper, flooring, sports matting and fabrics are available to clients on request, along with decorating advice and trade contacts.
Previously publisher at Martial Arts Ltd, Moira has spent 30 years in the publishing industry working on high profile publications such as Martial Arts Illustrated, MMA Uncaged and Combat & Survival, building a wealth of knowledge, which she has now combined with her love of interior design to establish Glove & Lotus.
Moira says: “Glove & Lotus is all about delivering specialist design solutions to gyms. Fast, efficient and commercially minded, I hope to pack a real punch within the industry, helping businesses and niche sports clubs inspire their members as soon as they walk through the door.
“There has been a strong growth within the private sector with a steep rise in boutique gyms, specialist studios and 24/7 gyms across the country, but with that comes stiff competition. Gyms and sports clubs are looking to design services and service-orientated solutions to attract and retain new members, which is where Glove & Lotus comes in.”
A recent project for the new business involved consultancy and design of inspirational wall panels and graphics at a boxing gym in Huddersfield, while a new commission will see Glove & Lotus transform Bridlington Spa with a set of decorative panels, just in time for The Blackball International World Pool Championships at the end of November.
The New Enterprise Allowance and AD:VENTURE Group has supported the launch with £3,000 of funding invested to kick-start the company.
