Eco-Friendly Holiday Homes Coming to Northumberland

Narec Distributed Energy (Narec DE), experts in renewable energy and grid connection, has provided its consultancy services on a project that will see eco-friendly rental holiday homes - reported to be worth half a million pounds - being built on the picturesque and highly sought-after tourist destination on the coastline of Northumberland.

Narec DE, based in Blyth, worked to ensure the grid connection of the five holiday homes - known as eco lodges - located in Broomhill, Northumberland. Narec DE also provided support on the renewable energy systems and energy storage. The homes – designed to appeal to environmentally savvy tourists - will run from renewable energy sources including solar power and air source heat pumps in order to be as energy efficient as possible.

Speaking about the project, Bryan Dixon, Senior Electrical Design Engineer at Narec DE said: “We’re thrilled to be working on this scheme as part of our aims of increasing energy efficiency in the UK. The eco lodges will appeal greatly to tourists who are conscious about the role that they play in reducing the countries emissions allowing people to holiday in Northumberland without creating a huge carbon footprint or damaging the environment.” Every aspect of the holiday homes contains eco-friendly measures in place from construction and operation right through to the final energy consumption of the completed lodges. The nine-month build is due for completion in summer 2019, ready to be used in the most popular holiday season.

This project comes from Narec DEs strong history of grid connection and low carbon building support. From the energy strategy of the award winning carbon negative development of Sinclair Meadows in 2010 through to more recent projects with Newcastle County Council and Life Engineering North East Limited the company has gained vast knowledge and experience from its previous successful projects. Most recently, Narec DE worked with Durham County Council on the grid connection of several batteries over 50MW.

In 2009, Narec DE existed as a department of the UK National Renewable Energy Centre and became an independent spin out company in 2012. Narec DE carry out a range of work including bespoke training, strategic consulting, testing as well as feasibility and design services within the renewable and low carbon sectors with a primary focus on the built environment. Narec DE was created with a series of aims including enabling individuals and companies to reduce carbon emissions, alleviating fuel poverty and improving energy security right through to stimulating economic growth and educating energy users about renewables.
