Washington-based Hellens Residential celebrates new home milestone
Affordable homes provider Hellens Residential is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a fresh business milestone.
The Washington-based company has launched a new bungalow scheme in County Durham, bringing its total number of homes in the region to more than 100.
Hellens, a registered provider of social housing, delivered 11 two-bedroom bungalows at Marley Fields in Wheatley Hill, west of Peterlee.
The scheme was built by construction firm Dere Street Homes and follows a number of similar projects from Hellens in the Durham area, including rental bungalows at The Limes, Coxhoe; a development of 12 rent-to-buy houses at Church View, Trimdon; and 11 affordable rental homes in Wynyard.
In December, Hellens Residential is due to complete a further eight rent-to-buy homes – a mix of two-bedroom properties and bungalows – in Carlton, Stockton. The company delivered first one of the same development last year.
Hellens MD Kate Hellens said: “We are delighted to have grown our portfolio of affordable homes to over 100.
“This marks a significant milestone for the business since it launched five years ago. Our main motivation is to be able to help local people, who are currently priced out of the housing market and struggle to find high quality housing in an area where they want to live.”
She added: “The Wheatley Hill bungalows are available to residents or employees of the local Durham area for affordable ownership to help people get a foot on the housing ladder.”
