Work commences to improve accessibility at Ouseburn Farm
Ground works to improve the layout and accessibility to Ouseburn Farm in Newcastle commenced this week.
New pathways are being installed from the front gates linking to the farm yard making is much more accessible for visitors with pushchairs and limited mobility. Also as part of the works, a new accessible greenhouse structure is being installed to enable staff and volunteers to deliver horticultural activities during extreme weather conditions – making sure the farm is accessible every day.
The farm is using some of the funding it received from the Mila Charitable Organisation and through the National Lottery fund as part of this year’s People’s Project to fund the works.
The works, which are being carried out by Deerness Fencing and Landscaping, part of the Esh Group construction company, are expected to be completed before Christmas.
Sally Adams from Ouseburn Farm, said: “We are always looking to improve our facilities here at the farm and after consulting with our visitors, we are committed to improving their overall experience. Making improvements to the pathways and the installation of the new greenhouse will make a huge difference to the farm and we’re really looking forward to seeing it when it is all finished.”
This work marks the beginning a series of capital improvements which are planned at the farm and will improve visitor and user experience.
