Gisborough Hall named one of the best hotels across Teesside and Yorkshire
Gisborough Hall has been singled out as one of the best hotels in the region in the UK’s biggest hospitality awards.
The 4* hotel was the only hotel in North Yorkshire and Teesside to receive the ‘highly commended’ accolade in the White Rose Awards’ ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ category.
This year’s awards received a record number of entries from hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions and recognise the stars in Yorkshire’s tourism industry from arts and culture to events and attractions, accommodation and food and drink.
More than a thousand people, including stars from Great British Bake Off, Yorkshire football and cricket and record-breaking racing star Mark Johnston attended the event at the Harrogate Convention Centre on Monday November 12th.
Gisborough Hall competed against York hotels The Principal and The Grand, The Devonshire Arms near Skipton, The Black Swan in Helmsley, Waterton Park in Wakefield and Coniston Hotel in Skipton. The overall ‘Gold’ winner in the category was The Devonshire Arms.
Gisborough Hall became a fully-independent and self-managed hotel in April 2017 and employs over 100 local people across the hotel, in its restaurants, bars and Revival Zone. This number is set to increase further in the coming year with the creation of a new multi-million-pound spa which it’s hoped will be open by Christmas 2019.
A recent AA inspection rated Gisborough Hall as one of the top destinations in the North East and North Yorkshire, retaining its AA’s four ‘Silver Star’ rating for its overall quality. The silver stars mark Gisborough Hall out as being of superior quality and are one of the highest hotel accolades available in the UK.
The luxury, four-star hotel, on the outskirts of Guisborough, was named as one of TripAdvisor’s top-rated places to stay last summer, gaining another Certificate of Excellence for its exemplary standards and service.
In addition, Gisborough Hall is also one of TripAdvisor’s ‘Green Leader’ award holders in recognition of its commitment to environmentally-friendly practices.
Ruairidh Taylor, hotel manager, said: “I am immensely proud of the team for this achievement at The White Rose Awards as they really are regarded as some of the most prestigious industry awards. This is a tremendous accolade during a busy year which has seen us become a fully independent hotel with a new management team.
“We faced some stiff competition to even reach the final and to get a ‘highly commended’ recognition is the icing on the cake.”
The White Rose Awards are organised by Welcome to Yorkshire and celebrate the region’s £8 billion tourism industry.
They also saw England Manager Gareth Southgate be named an ‘Honorary Yorkshireman’ in recognition of his achievements with the England team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and his dedication to Yorkshire which has now been his home for almost 20 years, following his move to play for Middlesbrough FC.
Sir Gary Verity DL, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said:
“Every single winner and finalist this evening deserves huge congratulations- they are all stars of Yorkshire and the UK’s tourism industry and should be incredibly proud of their achievements.
“Yorkshire has some of the best food and drink, accommodation, arts and attractions in the world thanks to the fantastic effort of our members and I hope they are as proud as we are of everything we achieve together to keep our county a number one visitor destination.”
