MILLER HOMES PLEDGES CONTINUED SUPPORT TO GRASSROOTS SPORT IN NORTHUMBERLAND

Miller Homes North East is continuing to back local sports after announcing two sponsorship initiatives.

For the third year running, the leading housebuilder will be the main sponsor of Blyth Football Club, enabling it to fund new home shirts and warm up jerseys for the 2018-19 season.

Blyth Football Club plays in the Northern Football Alliance with its home games at Cowpen Park, which is close to Miller Homes’ Portland Wynd development.

Nathan Parr, club chairman at Blyth Football Club, said: “We are a community-run club opening up opportunities for those with a passion for football to play and watch the sport close to home. The backing of Miller Homes is vital for the club’s future and allows us to fund new kit and equipment. It goes without saying that we are incredibly grateful.”

Additionally, gold medal-winning boxing talent Alex Brown has been backed for success with a sponsorship enabling her to compete all over the world.

The 15-year-old from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is a member of Newbiggin Boxing Club which is located near to Miller Homes’ Shoreland Park development. She trains five times a week and spends weekends at training camps across the UK, which the sponsorship will also help to fund.

With her sights set on one day representing Great Britain in the Olympic Games, the youngster is already on the road to victory having won 21 out of 23 bouts, and recently won the title of European Junior Boxing Champion for the 46kg weight category in Russia.

Alex said: “I absolutely love boxing and am grateful to Miller Homes for supporting me on my journey. I want nothing more than to do everyone proud and achieve my goal of becoming an Olympic champion, and inspire even more local girls to get into the sport.”

Andrew Somerville, associate sales director at Miller Homes North East, added: “Over the last three years we have developed a strong relationship with Blyth Football Club and didn’t hesitate to commit our support for the next two seasons. The club is at the heart of its community and does a great job in bringing people with shared interests together. On behalf of Miller Homes I wish the players the best of luck for the season.

“We are also delighted to support Alex’s boxing ambitions. She is very passionate about the sport and it is fantastic to have such a talented boxer hailing from the region. We wish her all the best in her upcoming competitions and hope to see her going for even more gold medals in the future.”
