'Iconic' Sunderland Joplings store opening to students for first time next month
Sunderland’s iconic Joplings department store has now been transformed into a state-of-the-art accommodation to house the region’s student population.
Now ready to be shown to the public, the new Jopling House is hosting an ‘open day’ event for prospective students on Thursday, December 6 from 11am to 6pm, providing future residents an in-depth look at the facility.
The department store’s legacy was at the heart of the renovation project, with Jaspia Limited paying homage to the Joplings name with an area set to encapsulate the Sunderland store’s history.
Jaspia Limited has brought the building into the 21st century with luxurious living spaces, gym, fitness suite and cinema room as well as conference and study rooms.
Jaspia Limited spokesperson, Steven Kwan, said: “Our goal is to become the North East’s leading student accommodation provider, and we plan to do this through offering the best facilities and living spaces for students.
“We already have enjoyed formidable success in providing accommodation to students in Middlesbrough, and with Jopling House, our goal is to enhance an already excellent reputation.”
The property also includes retail units, of which there has already been interest shown by national chains that have yet to venture into Sunderland, another indicator of the Sunniside area’s regeneration and revival.
