Latest £15m care home opens in Harrogate on 'luxury' Duchy Estate

A new ‘luxury’ care home is to officially open next month in the Duchy area of Harrogate following a £15m investment in a site which has been vacant for over four years.

The Manor House Harrogate, on Cornwall Road, is said to offer five-star accommodation combined with specialist residential, dementia and respite care for elderly people.

Facilities include a beauty salon, bowling green and wellness lodge with hydrotherapy pool. Meals are provided by an award-winning in-house executive chef, with a waiter service in the dining area.

The new development, which has created 110 full and part-time jobs, is the latest addition to a group of five star retirement homes owned by Hadrian Healthcare.

Two years ago, the family-run company sold half its portfolio to Bupa UK in a multi-million pound deal, and posted a 21 per cent growth in profits to £4.4m.

Hadrian Healthcare’s chairman, Ian Watson, said: “We know there is a buoyant market for high-end elderly care accommodation, and it’s an area in which we’ve invested heavily since 2016 and continue to see strong growth.

“The Manor House Harrogate is the perfect addition to our luxury portfolio, located in a prime part of a town known for its charm, elegance and refinement.

“We’re delighted to bring a derelict site back to life and create a high-end addition to the district’s care accommodation.”

The new development, which is now open for viewings, is located on the site of an original late-Victorian building known as Waldernheath.

Work on the development has been carried out by Yorkshire and North East contractors, including construction company Walter Thompson of Northallerton, interior design practice Bernard Interiors in Newcastle, and Gateshead architecture firm ARP Design.
