Festive focus: Bdaily chats with the managing partner of law firm Muckle LLP

It’s that time of year again. The Christmas rush. The manic high-street shopping. The alarming convenience of one-click online purchases. The nail-biting potential for drama at the staff party.

All that aside, December’s a time when we’re able to reflect on our achievements and failures of the last 12 months, and look ahead with a bit more foresight and wisdom than we had this time last year.

The Festive Focus series we’re running this month will look to highlight all that and more. Throughout each week in December, we’ll be sharing insights from key businesspeople in the North East, Yorkshire & Humber and London.

Today we have Jason Wainwright of Muckle LLP.

Can you introduce yourself and your business to our readers?

“Jason Wainwright, Managing Partner at Muckle LLP, a leading North East based independent law firm for businesses.”

What was your company’s biggest achievement of the year?

“It has been a fantastic year topped off by winning Best Medium Company at the North East Best Places to Work Awards, but our greatest achievement has probably been adopting agile working, or what I prefer to call ‘connected working’.

“It is something most law firms aren’t yet implementing and I’ve long been puzzled by the profession’s obsession with presenteeism.

“So this year we’ve invested heavily in technology that supports working remotely, enabling us to better service clients by spending more time in their businesses and helping our people to take control of their own time and personal wellbeing, all of which is really important at Muckle.”

How would you approach 2018 differently, given the chance?

“We’ve had a strong 2018, won some fantastic new clients and recruited some brilliant people. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

What are your company’s plans for the new year?

“We’ve just launched our values – Trust, Teamwork, Responsibility and Care – which we’ll be using to drive performance and help support our people, clients and communities even better in 2019.

“We’ll also be taking agile working at Muckle to new heights. Exciting times are ahead!”

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

“Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.”
