Ged feels at home in new role at Karbon

An experienced new executive has been appointed to lead on the ambitious development programme at Karbon Homes. Ged Walsh, 55, has joined Karbon at an exciting time in its development, as the company embarks on its new strategy which will see 500 new homes developed each year. Mr Walsh’s position as Director of Development and Asset Management sees him lead a team responsible for not only new homes, but also investing in maintaining and renewing Karbon’s stock of close to 30,000 homes across the North East and Yorkshire. He brings a wealth of experience from a range of senior level roles within the fields of housing development and asset management. His most recent role was at County Durham Housing Group where he was the Executive Director of Asset Management and Regeneration. He’s also worked for organisations including Yorkshire Housing, where he was responsible for building up and delivering a 600 home per year mixed tenure development programme, the former Homes and Communities Agency (now Homes England), and Home Group. Ged is already enjoying being part of Karbon: “I’ve always worked for housing associations, because I love what they stand for. “I already liked the organisation, and I like it more now I have arrived here. I’ve found the team very welcoming and friendly and I’m looking forward to helping them to carry on achieving and delivering the homes our customers want from us. “This business is about the people – if you can get good people working well together, you can deliver great things.” Ged, who lives in Jesmond and is married with three grown-up children, is also enjoying the shorter commute to work: “The office is not far from home, so I can now walk or cycle to work quite easily.” Karbon’s regionwide development programme will see the business invest in building at least 500 new homes a year throughout its five year ‘Strong Foundations’ strategy. Karbon has recently issued £150m in new bonds to support the delivery of its ambitious strategy. The organisation provides a range of ways for customers to access homes, from homes to buy and shared ownership, to affordable housing, social housing and supported and specialised housing.
