Couple invests in tiny cottages to meet growing demand for wedding accommodation

LUXURY Northumberland wedding venue Northside Farm has shed light on its second phase investment plans into expanding its accommodation offering.

Northside Farm in Horsley has injected an additional £50,000 of self-raised funds to build four whimsical ‘tiny cottages’ complete with their own private outdoor seating area and fire pit by the paddocks within the existing glamping site which currently boasts ten timber wigwams with amenities.

The new investment comes just months after owners announced the first phase renovation of an existing derelict circular gin gang as part of a £100,000 total expansion plan for the 75acre working farm.

Owners Olivia and Ralph Lockey believe the new offering will bring something more unique to offer guests as well as providing ‘in demand’ accommodation for the popular venue.

“When we first saw the cottages we fell in love with them as they are stunning and very well designed to offer our guests something extra special and romantic,” said Olivia Lockey.

“It was very important to us that the new build’s tied in with the existing barn and wigwams seamlessly to not only generate the additional accommodation needed, but to create a more unique setting within our beautiful gardens and amazing views.”

Having done much of the renovation work by hand, the couple are building each cottage and outside space themselves to be ready by next spring along with the launch of the dedicated licensed ceremony gin gang.

She continued: “We believe you have to keep diversifying and looking for new commercial opportunities and the tiny cottages will do just that. We are building them by hand and it is already a real talking point with people in awe of what they will look like when they are fully completed.”

The 6x4 metre self-catering wooden cabins sleep two people, includes a living area, a mezzanine, a small kitchen area with a sink and gas hob, its own WC and power shower, full lighting, a double bed and a dedicated outdoor space complete with its own BBQ fire pit and decking.

Established in 2012 as a luxury glamping site, Northside Farm has enjoyed steady success as a wedding destination venue since completing the conversion of its 150-year-old barn in 2016 into a luxurious and rustic space to complement the accommodation and facilities.
