Construction company Tom Willoughby wins gold

A NORTH Yorkshire construction company is celebrating after winning national honours for its work.

Tom Willoughby Ltd won a Gold Award and was named the Most Considerate Company Runner Up in the industry’s prestigious Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards.

Tom Willoughby’s Gold Considerate Constructors Award win was in the projects from £250k up to <£3.5m category and the Northallerton-based company was one of the highest scoring companies of all those registered in the competition this year.

The CCS competition was introduced in 1999 to recognise and reward the UK’s most considerate sites for the contribution they have made toward improving the image of construction. It looks at measures companies have put in place to be more considerate to neighbourhoods, their workforce and the environment.

This year’s awards ceremony took place at the Royal Institute of British Architects headquarters in central London where members of the team received the award and celebrated their success alongside other award-winning companies.

Tom Willoughby was awarded the Gold award for works undertaken at a former care home near Selby where demolition works were undertaken, and Cundall Manor School in York where a new reception extension was built.

Darren Johnson, Managing Director of Tom Willoughby, said: “We are incredibly proud of our team and glad to be involved in changing the image of the construction industry through the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

“A significant percentage of our work is undertaken in and around the community and the core values of the Considerate Constructors Scheme is at the heart of everything we do. We remain committed to being respectful and professional whilst caring about the environment and securing the safety of everyone. We are delighted to be recognised for the work we do and great credit must go to our valued workforce for their continued commitment.”

Tom Willoughby has been a member of the scheme since its introduction and was the eighth company to sign up to the scheme. Two years ago the company won CCS gold in the £250,000 to £3.5m category for work completed on two other sites – the refurbishment of Laurel Bank House in Guiseley and the refurbishment of two science labs at Thirsk School and Sixth Form College for North Yorkshire County Council.

The company was originally formed in 1896, was incorporated in 1961 and has offices in Northallerton, Leeming, Scarborough, Harrogate and Catterick.
