Tai Teg promotes 10 new homes in Anglesey

Six months since the launch of a new joint project, Tai Teg, in north Wales to facilitate local people’s chances of securing their ideal homes, 10 new homes are about to be completed at Llanddeusant, Anglesey.

Tai Teg is a new affordable housing register that offers local people the opportunity to rent or buy houses at a cost less than market value. Since its inception, over fifty people have been through the register to find a home to rent or to buy.

On the former school site at Llanddeusant, Anglesey, Yr Hen Ysgol will soon have 6 three bedroomed houses and 4 two bedroomed houses, thanks to a Welsh Government support grant. Local building contractors from Holyhead, DU Construction have been responsible for the development work on site.

“There is a continued demand for affordable homes across north Wales communities, so it’s great to be able to invest in rural villages such as this site at Llanddeusant, on Anglesey,” explains Dylan Roberts, Regeneration Services Director at Grŵp Cynefin.

“Working with communities to provide opportunities for local people to access quality properties, makes our work worthwhile. A year’s work on site preparing, planning and building is nearing completion and it is great to be able to offer the site back into the hands of local people. We will be welcoming local people to the site’s Open Day on Saturday 12 of January between 1 and 4pm.”

Ned Michael, Anglesey’s Head of Housing Services said: “Increasing the number of affordable homes on the island is a strategic priority for the Isle of Anglesey County Council and we are proactively working with key partners to develop additional affordable housing across the island. The Council has worked closely with Grŵp Cynefin to deliver this affordable housing scheme, in an area where the need for affordable housing had been identified.

Once again, this is another excellent example of how Anglesey County Council is working with its partners to develop new affordable housing on the Island and we hope that the tenants will enjoy living in their new homes for years to come.“

Construction should be completed at Yr Hen Ysgol by January 2019.

Grŵp Cynefin leads the Tai Teg project, but partners include The Snowdonia National Park Authority, together with the seven local authorities: Wrexham County Council, Flintshire County Council, Denbighshire County Council, Conwy County Borough Council, Gwynedd Council, Powys County Council, and Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd, Pennaf Housing Group, North Wales Housing, Wales & West Housing and Cartrefi Conwy make up the other housing associations involved with Tai Teg.
