London cybersecurity startup opens Boston office
London cybersecurity startup Barac is expanding into the US.
The company has opened an office in Boston and appointed its first executive vice president for global sales.
Barac works to help organisations identify and combat the growing problem of malware hidden in encrypted traffic, which it says is among today’s “biggest challenges” in cybersecurity.
Its platform detects malware without the need for decryption.
Barac was previously selected to join GCHQ’s Cyber Accelerator programme, which supports companies working to improve cybersecurity in the UK.
The new EVP global sales, cybersecurity professional Peter Christou, will aim to drive growth by increasing revenues, forging new partnerships and supporting further international expansion throughout 2019.
Omar Yaacoubi, founder and CEO of Barac, said: “More than 80% of all corporate traffic is now encrypted, driven by the increased adoption of cloud services, IoT and onerous compliance requirements, such as GDPR.
“Growth in the use of encryption represents a huge problem for organisations. Existing cybersecurity solutions leave organisations vulnerable to malware attacks because they are simply unable to protect against threats hidden in encrypted traffic.”
Peter Christou, who has 25 years’ experience helping security firms grow across the EMEA, APAC and US regions, commented: “Malware hidden in encrypted traffic is one of the biggest threats organisations are facing today.
“Our ability to solve the problem gives us tremendous growth opportunity as we scale up the business both in the UK where we are headquartered, across EMEA and now in the US with the opening of our Boston office.”
