New Career Chapter Starts with Desco for Chartered Engineer Steven

A new year brings a new chapter in Chartered Engineer Steven Sibley’s career as he makes the move to Desco, to support the North East-headquartered engineering consultancy’s steady growth plans.

Steven, who has previously worked for regional and international engineering consultants, joined Desco at the beginning of the month as a Technical Director. He will be responsible for managing a range of projects at the practice, which designs mechanical, electrical and environmental systems for buildings, across a variety of sectors including education, healthcare, leisure, residential and science and technology.

Based at Desco’s head office in Sunderland, Steven is thrilled to have joined the team which recently celebrated its twentieth year in business. Commenting on his new role, he says, “The breadth and range of projects Desco is currently involved in was certainly a determining factor in my decision to join the business. I’d often heard good stories about the company having a great working environment, which was also a massive draw.” Steven adds, “This new role offers me very attractive career prospects, promising the technical challenges that I thrive on, as well as the opportunity to work with some of our industry’s most talented, experienced engineers.”

One of Desco’s recent project appointments is for the design of a new £19m student accommodation scheme at Teesside University. The business is also currently engaged in the design of the university’s £12.5m new Student Life building – an exciting, technology-enabled building that will bring all its student-facing services together under one roof. Steven’s first task will be to manage the Student Life project through to completion and he’ll also bring his technical knowledge and management experience to ensure the successful delivery of the new residential accommodation scheme.

Neil Crowe, one of Desco’s Board Directors, with whom Steven will be working closely, said of his appointment, “Steven joining Desco has been a real coup for the business.”

Neil explains, “As our business matures, it’s important that we retain a fresh perspective and progressive attitude to help us bring innovative ideas and solutions forward for our clients. By bringing talented engineers, like Steven, into the business, to complement our existing, experienced management team, we can ensure we’re continually driving the business forward and consistently delivering the reliable, high-quality design and consultancy service that the Desco name has become synonymous with.”
