Chamber International supports Sheffield laboratory supply company with export to China

Sophisticated laboratory equipment widely used in analytical and industrial laboratories has been exported from Poland to China for a South Yorkshire business by overseas trade specialist, Chamber International.

Logistics specialists at Chamber International identified a Chinese company able to act as importer when it was found that Datech Scientific Ltd’s customer could not to do so under Chinese trade procedures.

A Vulcan Fusion Machine, widely-used for the preparation of fused beads for XRF analysis, was being exported by laboratory equipment supply and service company, Datech Scientific Ltd, Sheffield, to the Tianjin branch of a British based global contract laboratory company.

Datech Scientific Ltd director, Linda Matthews, says: “Our UK customer already used the Vulcan fusion machines, and wanted to arrange the supply of an instrument to their Chinese branch in Tianjin, nr Beijing, as a matter of some urgency.

“We are agents for the equipment manufacturer, PD Instruments, Krakow, Poland and offered to export the equipment to Tianjin on our customer’s behalf. However, I found the logistics of such an export rather daunting and time consuming, so contacted Chamber International, who we have already used in the past for more complex assignments.

“Chamber International managed the exporting and associated risk, taking the headache away from me and ensured a trouble-free delivery which both we and our customer were very happy with.”

XRF X-ray is a spectroscopic method used for analysing elements in a substance or product and is applied throughout the quality assurance industry as well as in institutions and authorities that monitor regulatory compliance.

Independently-owned Datech Scientific Ltd, which has four staff and a £1m turnover, was founded in 1989. The company supplies and services sample preparation equipment and laboratory automation technology, used in analytical and industrial laboratories across the UK & Ireland.

Datech Scientific Ltd also exports worldwide to countries where the manufacturers do not have an agent, and often seeks support for this from Chamber International.

Chamber International logistics specialist, Robin Finnis, says: “We collected from Krakow and sent the fusion machine by airfreight after arranging for a local Chinese company to act as our agent and pay import duties and taxes for Datech Scientific’s customer and deliver to them.

“Having to adopt this approach is not unusual for China and I’m pleased that it ensured the safety and speedy delivery of this crucial technology for Linda Matthews and her team at Datech Scientific.”

Chamber International, Bradford, helps hundreds of new and experienced exporters with a wide range of specialist services to make exporting easier and more cost effective.
