Praise for Chorley care home
A Lancashire care home – part of the larger, award-winning Buckshaw Retirement Village – has been awarded a ‘Good’ rating by the national care quality regulator.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) acknowledged the safe, effective, caring and well-led service at The Lodge, within the Buckshaw Retirement Village, near Chorley.
Particular recognition was given to the dedicated activities coordinator, who was praised for the wide range of organised activities that had been implemented.
Inspectors said: “These included group activities, visits from local community groups, pet therapy and various outings. The activities coordinator had worked to provide activities that individuals would find meaningful to them.
“With regard to engagement, we found staff engaged well with people,” adding, “and were responsive to people’s needs.”
The Lodge provides 24-hour care and support to around 80 people living with dementia and require help with nursing or personal care. Elsewhere, within Buckshaw Retirement Village there is the assisted living community, called The Grange, which has also recently enjoyed investment in new resources and improved facilities and care.
Lisa Barnes, divisional director at Buckshaw Retirement Village, said: “The Lodge is a unique environment and not your traditional care home. There is a real sense of community and emphasis on wellbeing, where residents are genuinely cared for and supported in a friendly atmosphere. Our facilities are second to none and The Lodge remains the best dementia community in the area.”
The CQC inspection report praised the overall quality of care provided by staff. “Staff had the skills, knowledge and a good level of support in order to meet people’s needs effectively,” said inspectors. They added: “We received consistently positive feedback about the approach of staff.”
Director Lisa Barnes said: “I would like to pay tribute to the dedication and hard work of all our staff. They have embraced changes and quality improvements, providing a happy, caring service which has been recognised by the CQC, and more importantly the residents who live at The Lodge.”
