Yorkshire Housing snaps up land near Harrogate for 73 new homes

Housing association Yorkshire Housing has bought almost eight acres of prime residential land in Killinghall, North Yorkshire.

The site, near Harrogate, has planning consent in place for 73 new properties.

Yorkshire Housing secured the land to ensure the delivery of affordable homes in the area.

Kester Horn, of Space Partnerships, advised the housing association. Deborah Finan of LCF Law in Bradford acted for the vendor and Ian Errington and Richard Stirk, from Blacks Solicitors and Bevan Brittan LLP respectively, acted for the buyer.

Leeds-based property firm Adair Paxton negotiated the sale on behalf of family-owned Wakefield business Woodhead Investment & Development Services Ltd, while the private owner of part of the site was represented by Robert Hurst from the Newark office of Fisher German.

Bruce Collinson, land and development director Adair Paxton, said: “We’ve been working on this development site for five years, which has involved maximising its value by securing planning consent and going to the open market, and it’s very rewarding to get the deal over the line.

“It’s a cracking green field site, which attracted tremendous interest from several major housebuilders, but it was Yorkshire Housing that successfully outbid them and secured the deal.”

He added: “The relatively low density of the proposed homes, which Harrogate Planners had requested, made it an ideal choice for Yorkshire Housing.”

Work is already underway on the new homes. The first are expected to be ready for residents later this year.
