Planning approval for Stockton industrial estate forecast to create 750 jobs
Plans for a new industrial estate near Stockton on Tees have been given the go-ahead, paving the way for hundreds of new jobs.
Stockton Borough Council greenlit the scheme, comprising 450,000 sq ft of industrial space on the outskirts of Eaglescliffe, after changes were made to the original outline plan.
Based on the Urlay Nook Road, the multi-million pound scheme is forecast to bring as many as 750 jobs to the area once businesses start moving in.
It will feature more than 30 units for general industrial, storage and distribution use, with site designs prepared by Newcastle-based Ryder Architecture.
Changes to the original plans, made under reserved matters and pre-commencement conditions set by the authority, covered aspects such as boundary treatment, drainage, landscaping, unit appearance and site investigations.
It follows six months of negotiations between the council and Hedley Planning Services, based in Hexham.
Hannah Chapman, planner at the firm, said: “This is an important step forward in a development of local significance.
“When completed, this industrial estate will be a further boost to jobs and growth, undoubtedly drawing new and innovative businesses to our area.”
She added: “As planners, we want to see the creation of sites that leave a long-lasting legacy. This one will undoubtedly have a real commercial impact on this part of Teesside.”
