Leeds City College reveals vision for new £60m campus

Leeds City College has revealed the vision for its upcoming Quarry Hill Campus.

The £60m scheme will house the college’s schools of Creative Arts and Social Science and welcome 3,000 students when it opens for the 2019/20 academic year.

It is backed with £33.4m in funding from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) through the Leeds City Region Growth Deal – a £1bn Government investment aimed at accelerating growth and creating jobs in the area.

New CGIs showing how the nine-story complex will look were revealed on Thursday (January 24) at an event held on site and attended by politicians, civic representatives, business leaders, academics and students.

Colin Booth, chief exec and principal of the Leeds City College, said: “Our new campus at Quarry Hill is the result of years of hard work by our staff and partners.

“It represents a fantastic and inspiring new space for our students and staff, but also for the city and wider region. We’ve traced the formative years of our organisation back to 1819, so this year is of enormous historical importance to us, as our bicentenary.”

He continued: “The development represents a bridge between the fascinating past of this part of the city and our shared future. The realisation of this project is testament to the drive and determination of our people over many years and wouldn’t have been possible without assistance from stakeholders across the region and further afield.”

Mr Booth added: “We’re delighted to be playing a part in creating a shared resource for our future, and developing the skills needed for the region’s continued growth and success.”
