New £1m motorbike showroom and shops in Gateshead to create up to 30 jobs

A new £1m motorbike showroom and retail facility that could create up to 30 jobs is coming to Gateshead.

Gateshead Council planning officers have given the greenlight for a project to breathe new life into the derelict site of the former Stadium Service Station on Park Road, off the Felling by-pass.

The project will deliver 15,000 sq ft of purpose-built commercial space across a two-storey building to be used for motorbike sales.

The ground floor will house units for food and drink retail, while onsite parking will offer space for up 37 vehicles.

The planning greenlight follows nine months of negotiations between the authority and Hexham-based Hedley Planning Services.

Hedley associate Joe Ridgeon said of the scheme: “Not only will it create a number of new jobs directly, the scheme will also contribute to the commercial vibrancy of an important part of Gateshead, attracting new occupiers and helping to stimulate economic growth.

“As planners, we want to see the creation of sites that leave a long-lasting legacy. This one will undoubtedly have a strong commercial impact on this part of Tyneside.”

Designs for the facility were developed by Newcastle architecture practice Sadler Brown Associates.
