New first aiders for junior running club
A junior running club in Chesterfield is set to train six coaches in first aid, following a donation from a housebuilder.
The Cannon Events Kids Running Club received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Nottingham as part of its Community Champions scheme.
The running club, which was launched in May last year organises a weekly run for children and their parents every Saturday at various places in and around Chesterfield. Children as young as six to 15-years-old take part in the clubs runs as well as completing in cross county events & park runs.
Founder, John Cannon, said: “We are delighted to receive Persimmon Homes’ support. My aim was to set up a running club for youngsters and create a fun and friendly environment for children and parents to enjoy running.
“Our numbers grow each week and we are delighted that more than 95 per cent of the children return each week.
“Safety is naturally our priority so as the club grows, we need to train more coaches in first aid. The donation will ensure we can make this happen and continue to expand our members.”
Neil Follows, managing director at Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Every month we give donations to community groups across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
“As we hope to be launching a new development in Chesterfield later this year we believe it is important to support the local community where we are building.
“If people have been unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again. Hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
