Sheffield Housing Company creates 500 jobs in eight years, figures show
Sheffield City Council’s development company has built its 600th home and helped create 500 jobs to date, new figures show.
Sheffield Housing Company (SHC) achieved the milestones, announced today (February 6), by spending more than £80m with construction sector businesses in the city region.
The organisation is a joint venture between the council, its construction partner Keepmoat Homes and housing association Great Places.
It launched in 2011 with the aim of improving the quality and choice of housing, creating jobs and encouraging investment in the area.
Of the 600 homes delivered through SHC, 452 have been sold outright and 36 as shared ownership, while 26 were offered at market rent and 86 designated as ‘affordable’.
SHC is currently working on phase two of a 25-year plan to build 2,300 affordable homes.
Cllr Jack Scott, the authority’s Cabinet Member for Development, said: “The numbers tell a story when it comes to Sheffield Housing Company.
“Through working in partnership, we have delivered huge economic and social boosts that will benefit areas of Sheffield that need it most, regenerating communities and giving people the support they need to build better homes, lives and opportunities.”
Homes England chief investment officer Gordon More commented: “We’re using our land, finance and expertise to speed up the delivery of new homes.
“A £5.4m loan, through our Home Building Fund, is a significant step towards increasing housing supply in Sheffield. We are committed to working in partnership with organisations like SHC to provide high quality affordable housing.”
