Glass company shows clear commitment with investment jobs boost

Specialist producer, Donwood Glass, has emphasised its commitment to the future of its North East business with an investment in new core machinery which will see the creation of five new job roles in the region.

The family-run business, which has been operating from purpose-built offices in Gateshead for over 30 years and currently employs 55 staff, purchased a new glass-toughening machine capable of increasing production of toughened glass by around 40%, increasing capacity output and leading to the creation of the new roles to match customer demand.

Speaking about the latest procurement for the specialist company Donwood MD, Andrew Donnelly, said: “The purchase of the new machinery represents an increase in our capacity to produce toughened glass and has been very much driven by customer demand for our products, both in the domestic and commercial markets.

“We pride ourselves on manufacturing high-quality glass products and providing an excellent level of customer service. We constantly strive to deliver the most efficient service levels for our customers and, as such, we are committed to continual investment in the best machinery available:

“With firm roots in the North East we are also delighted to be bringing new jobs to the region and expanding our hard-working team in order to help ensure not only the longevity of our business, but develop the skills required to carry on with the supply of flat glass products for future generations.”

This latest acquisition follows a period of continued investment in new technology at Donwood Glass, with other recent investments including a 6-brush vertical glass washer and a cutting-edge compressed air system.
