Surveillance Technology Start Up – Ocucon – Named Double Finalist in Prestigious Business Awards

Ocucon - the world’s first true Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) system – has been shortlisted in two categories of this year’s prestigious North East Business Awards, Northumberland & Tyneside region.

Held in association with the North East England Chamber of Commerce, the North East Business Awards shine a light on the innovative businesses based in the region.

Breaking new ground in surveillance technology, the Newcastle-based company is one of three businesses to be shortlisted in the Digital Technology category. The award recognises those businesses that have embraced digital technology to drive their company forward, either by launching new digital products or services or by deploying digital solutions to overcome significant business challenges.

Ocucon is also one of three businesses to be shortlisted in the Innovation category, recognising those that have launched the most pioneering new products or services in the last year that have generated, or are likely to generate considerable commercial success.

Ocucon Co-Founder, Gary Trotter commented: “To be shortlisted in this year’s North East Business Awards, is testament to the great team we have based here in Newcastle, and our innovative and collaborative approach.

“Since Ocucon became commercially available in early 2018, less than 12 months ago, we have partnered with some of the biggest names in the technology and surveillance industry – such as Google and Everseen - to deliver the first-of-its-kind cloud based storage service for CCTV and surveillance technology. As a result we’ve seen significant interest in Ocucon both from large UK corporations and retailers, but also major retailers in North America.

Ocucon delivers a powerful, cloud-based storage and retrieval platform, combining intelligent data analytics with the facility to store, analyse and retrieve unlimited amounts of HD video surveillance footage from within the Ocucon portal.

By removing physical limitations on the amount of surveillance footage an organisation can save, Ocucon is set to revolutionise the ability of businesses to defend against fraudulent cases of slips, trips and falls – currently estimated to cost the UK economy alone more than £800 million a year. As a result, it is expected to be of interest to any organisation capturing significant amounts of CCTV data.

The North East-based firm also recently launched Ocucon Pixelate. The new product harnesses the power of AI and machine learning to deliver an intelligent and cost-effective video redaction tool that can be used with all forms of camera footage.
