Keepmoat opens first showhomes at Darlington Fairway development

Housebuilder Keepmoat has opened the first showhomes at its Fairway development in Darlington.

The scheme, located next to the Red Hall estate, comprises 81 new-build properties.

Homes on site have a number of features prioritising flexibility and accessibility, including joists allowing for a future through-floor lift and stairs wide enough to accomodate a stair lift.

The properties also have wider-than-standard car parking bays and plumbing that allows for future ground-floor showers to be installed.

The development secured planning permission in October 2017 and work started in April 2018.

It is part of the Healthy New Towns project, established in 2016 by the NHS and supported by Public Health England, which aims to have developments more closely integrate the health needs of their residents.

Cllr Stephen Harker, Leader of Darlington Borough Council, said: “We are pleased to have worked with Keepmoat Homes, who as part of the Healthy New Towns programme, have adapted both the way they approached the design of the overall development ensuring open green spaces and good connectivity to encourage activity and exercise, and the houses themselves to support a residents changing needs during their life course, in keeping with developing health enabling neighbourhoods.

“This has helped to inform our developing views about how to support health and wellbeing through the built and natural environment.”

Keepmoat Homes regional MD Ian Worgan commented: “The show homes which have been opened today by Cllr Harker are from a brand new range of house types.

“They are designed around the needs of first time buyers and others looking for a cost effective home, whilst at the same time being set up to be easily adapted and altered in the future as and when the resident’s needs change.”

He continued: “The external environment has also been planned with heath in mind with good links to local footpaths and cycleways and well planned open space.

“As a developer we believe in building communities and transforming lives and we believe this new house type range could truly enhance the lives of the people who live in them.”
