Cheers! IB Construction completes £multi-million McMullen’s Brewery project to mark major pub milestone

A Willenhall-based construction specialist is celebrating a major milestone with the pub trade by completing its first ever new build for McMullen’s Brewery.

IB Construction, which employs up to 100 people across its live sites, has overseen the £multi-million construction of ‘Kings Reach’ on the outskirts of Biggleswade town centre in Bedfordshire.

This is the company’s 50th new build pub/restaurant project and took just 25 weeks from the first spade in the ground to staff serving the first McMullen’s pint and serving customers with a wide selection of food.

The impressive property maximises the latest sustainable building techniques and pub trade technology, as well as a feature oak staircase that is designed to be a talking point for drinkers and diners.

Tim Lewis, Contracts Manager for IB Construction, commented: “Our first pub was the Rose and Crown on the Penn Road in Wolverhampton, which was for Mitchells & Butlers.

“We found we had a natural ability to work in this sector and the latest project for McMullen’s Brewery marks our 50th new build - a fantastic milestone and testimony to our ability to work with clients to build ever more ambitious properties on time and to budget.”

He continued: “The leisure market represents about 60% of our turnover so it is a very important target for our business and we’re currently in discussions to work on another three new build pubs - for three different breweries - in 2019.

“We can also offer refurbishment services, fast track fit-outs, heritage refurbishment and larger scale public sector projects - it really depends on the support our clients require.”

Ed Bunnett, Area Manager at McMullen’s Brewery, added his support: “The King’s Reach pub is the first time we have worked with IB Construction and we have been impressed with its experience and attention to detail that was was obvious from the start.

“The project was completed on programme and to a high quality of finish. It is also refreshing these days to work with a professional team that is always prepared to help.”

Established in 1959, IB Construction is one of the UK’s leading principal contractors, combining the latest building techniques and expert project management with attention to detail and outstanding customer care.

This approach has seen it deliver more than 1700 projects, covering high profile developments for the community and for clients involved in commercial, education, healthcare, industry, leisure and special heritage projects.

The company’s portfolio encompasses everything from small renovations and interior fit-outs to refurbishments and large-scale design and build contracts.

Tim concluded: “2018 was some of the toughest trading conditions we’ve faced, but we’ve still been able to grow in our key sectors and also make significant inroads into education and healthcare.

“This has helped us create new jobs and we are currently looking to recruit a number of specialists in our estimating department, a crucial part of the business if we are going to hit our target of 10% growth in 2019.”
