Local housebuilder shines spotlight on award winning apprentice for National Apprenticship Week

This National Apprenticeship Week (4th – 8th March) Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, is shining a light on one of its most successful apprentices, Gabriel Lynch, 21 who joined the housebuilder through its award winning apprenticeship programme.

Gabriel, known as Gabe, is from Leeds and joined Barratt as a Buying Apprentice in 2016 through the housebuilders commercial apprentice programme, which is co-ordinateed with CITB. After completing his A-Levels at Leeds City College, Gabe was seeking to develop a career in construction and was attracted to Barratt’s scheme due to the opportunities to work and study simultaneously.

Last year, Gabe’s determination and hard work was celebrated when David Thomas, Chief Executive at Barratt Developments PLC presented him with Barratt’s prestigious Individual of the Year award. Following this, his continuous outstanding work ethic didn’t go un-noticed and in November he was crowned Great British Apprentice of the Year at the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Awards. As well as taking home the overall title, Gabe also walked away with two other awards; Regional Apprentice of the Year for North East Yorkshire and the Humber and Apprentice of the Year England, rounding off a fantastic year for the young apprentice.

Gabe Lynch commented: “It’s such a fantastic feeling when your hard work pays off and is recognised on such a broad scale. I’m determined to be the best I can in my career and am so lucky to have such a fantastic team around me at Barratt to support me and help me to continue to develop. I’d reccomend Barratt’s apprenticeship program to anyone looking to get into the construction industry.”

Martin Purdy, Commercial Director commented: “We are incredibly proud of all our apprentices. Gabe’s success is a testament to his hard work and development and he is a great example of what a Barratt apprentice is capable of and what opportunities are available to apprentices on our scheme.”
