Tesco Says Thank You to Llandrindod Wells after Fundraising Success

Generous local people have helped the Tesco store in Llandrindod Wells raise more than £40,000 for good causes in the community in the past year.

Throughout the year, Jayne Griffiths, the store’s community champion, has been working with charities on initiatives in-store and across the region to support local groups

Jayne said: “It’s amazing to look back and quantify just how generous the people of Llandrindod have been over the past year. It is estimated that we raised a hefty £42,124 for good causes across the town in 2018 alone!”

In her role as community champion, Jayne works with local charities including the Llandrindod Wells Foodbank, MIND, the Bracken Trust, and the local Leg Club and gives talks in the town, to local WI’s and Round Table, Rotary and Lions groups.

Jayne and her Tesco colleagues have raised money through events including tombolas, lucky dips, fancy dress events, in-store collections and second-hand book sales.

They also organised an ice bath at the front of the store, which some of the managers were persuaded to take part in, and a highly popular “managers in stocks” event. Last year, Jayne was also behind the initiative of turning the town pink ahead of Race for Life.

She said: “We can’t wait to build on the impressive figures from last year to see if we can beat them in 2019. We’ve got some really exciting initiatives coming up in the months ahead and you’ll have to keep an eye out in the town to see whether we’ll be turning it pink again!”

Rhodri Evans, Tesco’s communications manager for Wales, said: “It’s really important to us at Tesco that we play an active role in the community. Jayne and our team at Llandrindod Wells are really committed to that and it is great to see so much money being raised for good causes in Llandrindod Wells thanks to their hard work and the incredible generosity of our customers.”
