Technical PR agency raises over £2,000 for local community organisation

Yorkshire-based Scriba PR has raised £2,051 at its latest fundraising event – in aid of local community interest company, Conscious Youth.

The team was joined by family, friends and clients at the Huddersfield YMCA for its ‘Drink and Think Again’ quiz night earlier this month.

On the evening, teams of up to four people took part in a family-fortunes-style quiz, for a chance to scoop the £100 prize money. Other activities also went on throughout the event, including a raffle – which gave guests the opportunity to win items such as British Touring Car Championship tickets, hotel stays and restaurant vouchers – and a stand-up-sit-down bingo with a two-night stay in a Cumbrian hideaway on offer.

Having previously raised over £2,000 for Thrombosis UK, Scriba decided to host a similar event – this time for an organisation closer to home.

All the funds raised have been donated to Conscious Youth, which is based at The Media Centre in Huddersfield. The organisation – founded by joint directors Sophie Simpson and Serena Johnson – provides a range of youth-led projects and activities within the local community, including its popular Stepping Up and Stepping Out programme. The various initiatives are aimed at young people between eight and 24 years-old, and also women of all ages.

The money will be used to support the growth of existing projects, as well as to help kick-start ‘Conscious Girls’ – an all-female youth group.

Having been granted partial funding by One Community Foundation through the Tampon Tax Fund, ‘Conscious Girls’ will focus on self-development and character building for women aged between 12 and 16. The aim is to empower young women with the skills, knowledge and support which will enable them to make better life choices.

Operations manager at Scriba PR, Louise Jaggar, said: “The Scriba team has always been passionate about ‘giving back’ to others – something that hasn’t changed as the company has grown, and is still an integral part of our culture.

“There are so many worthwhile charities, but this year we wanted to focus on a local initiative, helping people based in Huddersfield and the surrounding areas. The work carried out by Conscious Youth is nothing short of inspiring, and the real-life success stories of young people they have helped in our town made them an obvious choice.”

Commenting on Scriba’s donation, Sophie Simpson, who spoke on the night, said: “We are overwhelmed with the support and the funds that were raised on the evening – normally we would have to go out and bid for grants, so the work that Scriba has done is above and beyond anything we’ve ever received. We were amazed by the number of people who attended and wanted to help our cause – we’ve even had lots of them contacting us to book onto our own most recent event!”

Since it was founded in 2013, Scriba PR has raised over £8,000 for charities and other organisations.
