Storage retailer boosts its Yorkshire warehouse demand with £250k investment

McCarthy’s Storage World has invested £250k in increasing the available storage space at its warehouses in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield.

Increase in demand has led to an additional 10,000 sq ft of storage space being built across the three Yorkshire sites, equating to an extra 200 individual units.

The space includes a range of internal warehouse-style units, but also the first ‘drive-up’ units at the Wakefield site.

Family-business McCarthy’s Removals and Storage celebrated its 50th birthday last year. The company diversified into self storage in 2006, first opening its Leeds’ site on Meanwood Road, followed by Harrogate in 2012 and Wakefield in 2015.

Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s, said: “Demand is increasing as more and more people are seeing how self storage can be of benefit in a range of situations. For personal reasons, people often use self storage to manage big changes in their life.

“That might be moving house, undertaking building work or renovations, or if there’s been a separation or death in the family, when additional space can be needed quickly.

“But we have also seen an increase in businesses using self storage - for example eBay traders and ‘pick and pack’ companies trading on the internet.

“Having a flexible space, which comes at a set, all-inclusive fee is appealing, as is knowing they can scale up or down the size of their unit as they need to, to meet business demand.”

Furthermore, McCarthy’s operates serviced offices in Leeds, and provides document management services and runs a successful shredding company - McCarthy’s Safe Shred.

Storage units ranging from the size of an old telephone box (16 sq ft) to 500 sq ft are available at the three McCarthy’s sites, along with larger, bespoke units which can be created to order. Units can be fitted with power, WiFi and heating as needed.
