It’s a bug’s life
Two lucky members of staff from Intu Eldon Square took time out from their busy day jobs this week to help launch a national wildlife campaign.
The two, Intu Retail Liaison Manager Daniel Errington-Barnes and Intu Environmental Services Coordinator Carol McCabe, visited Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s St Nicholas Park nature reserve in Gosforth to make insect houses and learn more about the wildlife on the site, including ladybirds, centipedes, beetles and slugs which live in such constructions.
Daniel and Carol’s houses will be given to three local schools part of the launch of the Wildlife Trust’s month long nature challenge, aptly titled, 30 Days Wild Campaign.
The 30 Days Wild national website was launched this week and Northumberland Wildlife Trust is calling on nature lovers both young and old to sign up for their free packs at www.wildlifetrusts.org/30DaysWild and start planning their 30 Days Wild that starts on Saturday 1 June.
Last year 30 Days Wild was a record breaker with over 350,000 people embracing the challenge of experiencing nature every day during June.
In the standard pack, there is a handy pocket-sized guide to 101 Random Acts of Wildness, a packet of wildflower seeds, a wall chart to make memories of your wild month, and wild-at-heart stickers to share with family and friends. For the first time, the Wildlife Trusts have also produced a pack for care homes alongside packs for schools and businesses. Research has shown that providing contact with nature can help people to feel happier and healthier.
Now in its fifth year, 30 Days Wild participants keep up to date and share the fun and activities across social media #30DaysWild.
