International specialist provider of steel pipes, tubes, plate and associated components for inter alia high temperature pressure part applications, RTR GmbH & Co. KG, is celebrating after being honoured with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.

The elite recognition has been achieved thanks to the UK-based company’s outstanding short-term growth in overseas sales over the last three years, including Australia. It follows a period of overall growth for the company, which recently celebrated its 50th year in business, having been established on 6th February 1969, in Ratingen, Germany, by three partners – Klaus Ries, Klaus Thiel and Karl Ruser, forming the title ‘RTR’.

The company, which opened its UK headquarters in Gateshead in 1977, has seen overseas activity increase from a nominal amount in 2015 to represent over 69% of total sales in 2017, and close to 80% last year. It has established markets in the UK, Germany, Australasia, South Africa, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Middle East and through local partnerships plans to increase its activity in these markets for continued growth.

Speaking about the honour and reflecting on his record 33 years of service in the UK branch of the operation, Managing Director and Co-owner of RTR GmbH & Co. KG, Philip Ross, said: “We are deeply honoured to have been recognised for this award which is the result of huge commitment and a great deal of work by everyone in the team. With changes in our domestic market over recent years it was essential we developed overseas customers. We are delighted with the response we have received from these territories and we see export as a fundamental part of our growth strategy for future years.

“In the 33 years I have worked with RTR I have witnessed first hand the strength of our collaboration with our customers and supply chain alike. In that time, we have moved into a number of exciting areas, including Nuclear, Biomass, Waste to Energy and other renewable processes.

“Our challenge is to continue to innovate and expand the level of service we deliver to our clients, both domestic and internationally, and I am confident we can continue to do so; with our dedicated team committed to providing the same exceptional provision which has seen us recognised in this award.”

The business’ client base crosses multiple industry sectors including: Power Plant repair and maintenance within Nuclear, Coal, Gas, Biomass: as well as Waste to Energy, Chemical, and Petrochemical.

Over the last 50 years RTR has developed specialist engineering and metallurgical knowledge in these sectors and offers a consultative and collaborative approach to clients for their repairs, maintenance and environmental upgrades. Supply chain management and logistical expertise ensure timely execution of critical path components.
