First monthly craft beer and food event coming to the North East coast in May

Next week, North Shields Fish Quay will welcome the North East coast’s first monthly indoor craft beer and street food emporium.

It will be situated in the CoSalt Factory on Liddell Street, next door to the Prince of Wales pub and iconic Wooden Dolly.

The North Shields Fish Quay has, in the last few years, become a supposedly more busy destination with much of the old fishing industry being replaced by leisure offerings, including bars, restaurants and several fish and chip shops.

The Salt Market Social has been inspired by some amazing city centre offerings across the country including Peddler’s Market in Sheffield, Baltic Market in Liverpool and Newcastle’s own Boiler Shop Steamer, alongside By the River in Gateshead.

Jim Mawdsley, CEO of Generator, said: “When John (Fairs) and Barney (Miller) approached me for ideas for the first floor of the ex-Co Salt factory they had recently acquired, I immediately thought of a pop-up monthly Craft Beer with street food affair.

“We thought that the coast and, particularly, the resurgent Fish Quay in North Shields was the perfect place for this offering and the attention we are already getting for the project is quite overwhelming.”

Said to reflect coastal industrial heritage, Salt Market Social will uphold the portal traditions of Tyneside by importing world street food - from some North East’s eateries - while exporting the North East Craft Beer to the coastal community.
