American Express Leader Awarded Prestigious Women in Payments UK 2019 Rising Star Accolade
Hannah Lewis, Head of Product, Marketing and Brand for UK and International Currency Cards, American Express has been named Women in Payments UK Rising Star, at the organisation’s recent 2019 UK Symposium, held in London. Recipients of the association’s annual awards are women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and promise within the sector.
A growing global network founded in 2012, Women in Payments connects and empowers like-minded women at all stages of their careers, supports gender parity, promotes diversity and celebrates outstanding accomplishments and expertise of female payment professionals. The Rising Star accolade is awarded to a candidate who has demonstrated vision, leadership and professional excellence, supports other talented colleagues and is committed to motivating others to make a positive impact in the payments and Fintech industry.
An Awards Committee comprised of senior women leaders from across the payments industry applauded Hannah’s achievements during her time at American Express. Having joined the company in 2008, she now leads a team of over 60, heading the UK lending business, and has responsibility for product, brand and customer marketing.
Recognised by colleagues as a highly collaborative leader, Hannah was nominated for consistently leveraging her experience and network to drive transformative growth in the UK business. In addition to playing a key role in establishing Shop Small – a highly successful national campaign supporting local independent businesses, Hannah has spearheaded a number of important initiatives including the Amex Offers marketing programme for Cardmembers, which is consistently recognised as best in class by the industry. Hannah has championed several learning and development initiatives within American Express and is a strong advocate for the company’s diversity and inclusion agenda. She is also an active participant in UK Finance, representing American Express on the Cards and Payments Board, contributing to the evolving strategic direction of the card payment industry.

The Women in Payments Symposium also provided an opportunity to hear inspiring discussion and debate from key female leaders in payments and Fintech. Topics included the rapidly changing fields of payment applications, technology and leadership. Charlotte Duerden was among the industry experts who took to the stage for a panel discussion on women and leadership. Charlotte discussed her work with the American Express UK Diversity Council and the company’s Inclusive Leadership Training which equips senior leaders with skills to build high performing, diverse teams.
