Reece Foundation to support Bring It On North East for a third year

The Reece Foundation donates £10,000 to the biggest celebration of engineering in the region.

Bring It On North East aims to inspire, educate and motivate young people aged 9-14 to explore engineering as their future career. The Reece Foundation is now into its third year of supporting this event which brings together industry and education to celebrate North East science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) potential and opportunities available. Anne Reece, chair Reece Foundation, explains:

“We have been involved in Bring It On since the start as it is exactly what is needed to get the message across that engineering is an industry of the future and offers great job prospects.

“We want to see more young people – and particularly more girls - studying STEM subjects both at school and higher education and getting these good jobs in the North East.”

Reece Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim to promote manufacturing and engineering in the North East, and support education here, particularly relating to engineering, mathematics and physics.

Anne added: “Our Reece Group engineers will be at Bring it On again this year to give a taste of some of the innovative products the companies manufacture – from life-saving landmine clearance devices to road repair machines.
“And most importantly it’s fun. Through the exciting hands-on activities taking place, we hope this exhibition will ignite that spark of enthusiasm and encourage the youngsters to find out more about the opportunities that studying STEM can offer.”

The Bring it On event is the culmination of a successful collaboration between a number of different organisations from across the region working together to inspire young people about North East engineering.

Research shows the largest flow of newly skilled talent into the engineering workforce comes directly from education.

Carol Harrison, Bring It On Programme Manager commented: “Reece Foundation is our most generous supporter for a third consecutive year which is a fantastic kudos for our work and commitment. We all feel extremely honoured and privileged to have received their trust again this year and look forward to revealing the result of our hard work at this year’s event on 9th and 10th October.”

The event will take please at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland. Registrations are now open for both schools and businesses http://www.bringitonne.co.uk/
