Amazon invests major sum in popular delivery service
Amazon has announced a major investment in food courier Deliveroo.
The figure has not been disclosed, however Amazon is said to be the biggest investor in Deliveroo’s latest round of fundraising, which came to £450m. Many existing US investors also contributed to the round.
Deliveroo said it would use the investment to expand internationally, improving its service and to grow its delivery-only kitchens business.
Since being founded in 2013, the amount of capital invested in Deliveroo comes to more than $1.5bn.
Deliveroo founder and chief executive, Will Shu, stated he is excited to work with “such a customer-obsessed organisation”, like Amazon.
In the past, Amazon reportedly had ideas to buy Deliveroo outright, which now operates in over 100 cities and towns countrywide.
