Somerset site manager wins national award

A Somerset site manager has won a top national award for the quality of the homes he is building.

Brendan Mason, who works at David Wilson Homes’ Patch Meadows development in Somerton, has been recognised by the National House Building Council (NHBC) in its annual Pride in the Job Quality awards.

Known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”, the Pride in the Job Quality awards recognise the best-run building sites in the country and are the highest accolade a site manager can achieve.

In addition to spot checks from the NHBC, site managers are judged on their consistency, attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise and health and safety, with just 450 individual winners being chosen from over 16,000 entrants.

Ian Menham, managing director from David Wilson Homes, said: “These awards recognise only the very best new homes and well-run sites. They are something that customers can look out for as a quality mark knowing their home has been built to the highest standard possible.

“Recognition like this demonstrates that our site managers are building some of the best quality homes in the country. It shows the commitment we have made to excellence in construction and putting customers at the heart of everything we do and that is so important to me personally and the company as a whole as we look to build on our success in the south west.”

Brendan, who has been working in construction for more than 40 years, added: “It’s a real honour to win one of these awards, particularly considering the fact they are national. Patch Meadows has been such a rewarding site to work on so this award really is the icing on the cake.”

It’s not the first time Brendan has received praise for his work. Last year he was named David Wilson Homes’ Customer First senior site manager of the quarter and of the year. The accolade is given to the site manager who excels in customer service and Brendan beat off stiff competition from colleagues across the entire South West to win the award.

He has played a key role within the industry over four decades and says his favourite part of his job is the feeling of satisfaction from finishing the homes to the highest standards possible.

“It takes a lot of drive and determination to build quality homes. It’s really rewarding when you can hand over the keys and see the happy look on people’s faces as they walk into their new home,” he said.
