Family Races for Life
Cancer touches us all, so when 12-year-old Rebecca Millington asked her Dad if the family could run the Cancer Research Race for Life at Tatton Park near Knutsford, he and wife Shell agreed straight away.
Gary explains, “As a family we’ve experienced a lot of loss through cancer, not only did my Dad, Rebecca’s Grandad, die from Leukaemia, but this year we’ve lost two more people who were important to us, a very close family friend and then Rebecca’s uncle”.
The family lives in Northwich and Gary was supported in his fund-raising by his employer, Swansway Motor Group, as he explained, “They give every employee who takes part in a fundraising event a £100 donation, so I knew we’d be off to a great start. I’ve worked at Swansway Peugeot, which is in Chester for over 8 years so my team mates were right behind us all too”.
Swansway Group Director, David Smyth, added, “As a family owned business It was really an absolute delight to see a family taking part together in such a wonderful event. Hats off to Rebecca for getting her mum and dad to pull on their trainers”!
“It felt right for our family to do something to help fund research into this really cruel disease and Shell and I are so proud of Rebecca for not only completing the race, but for coming up with idea too”, added Gary.
