Topping out ceremony for major new Kelham Island development
A TOPPING Out ceremony has been carried out as the latest project from award winning Sheffield multi disciplinary practice CODA Studios and partners nears completion.
Kelham Gate is a new seven-story development of 49 apartments and a ground floor commercial unit on the former Carr Motors site, facing directly onto the Shalesmoor roundabout.
The site has been developed by RS Sabkha Construction and Developments Ltd and designed by CODA Architecture, with structural engineering by CODA Structures and quantity surveying and project management by Broadfield Project Management.
The project is the latest in a long line of developments throughout the historic Kelham Island and Shalesmoor area by CODA.
“This project is very much part of an ongoing drive by CODA and our partners to create a thriving community in the increasingly important Kelham Island area,” said the project’s architect Andrew Chetwynd.
“A building on this scale and at this high profile location goes a long way to completing the vital regeneration of this part of the city.”
Matt Catherall, Construction Director at Broadfield Project Management, said: “We are very pleased to be delivering this project at the gateway to Kelham Island for RS Sabkha Construction and Developments Ltd, and continuing our 13 year partnership with CODA in Sheffield.
“The bespoke construction management services provided by Broadfield have enabled this tight inner city project to be delivered within the clients budget and timescale.
“The lightweight steel option was selected by Broadfield to enable the frame to be built safely and quickly within a very restricted building site on the junction of one of Sheffield’s busiest roads.”
Work on Kelham Gate is expected to be completed by February 2020.
