Merseyrail offers free travel to military personnel on Armed Forces Day
Merseyrail will be offering free travel to all serving personnel and veterans on Armed Forces Day this year.
This year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations take place on Saturday 29 June from 10:00am to 5:00pm, starting with a ceremony at St Nicholas’ Church.
A parade will then make its way to the Royal Albert Dock, where recruiting stands, performances and military demonstrations will take place.
The closest stations to the event will be James Street from the Wirral line and Liverpool Central from the Northern line.
To receive their free travel, veterans and armed forces personnel must present their Armed Forces ID, Veterans Badge with a photo ID or be dressed in their full uniform.
There will also be an Armed Forces Day event outside Southport Town Hall on Sunday 30 June with a drumhead service, parade, modern and vintage military vehicles and live music.
Andy Heath, Managing Director at Merseyrail, said: “We are forever indebted to the hard work and bravery shown by our armed forces, and I’m pleased that we are able to show our support in this way.
“Whether personnel or veterans wish to spend the day at one of the services across the city, or spend time with family and friends, they can get there with Merseyrail completely free of charge.”
