EDF Energy employees dress down for Alzheimer’s awareness
Customer services workers at EDF Energy, based at Doxford International Business Park, took part in a special ‘dress down’ day to promote awareness for Alzheimer’s Society, raising more than £800.
Employees could choose to go to work dressed ‘casual for a cause’ in exchange for a donation, of any amount, to Alzheimer’s Society, to help fight against dementia.
Kevin Gatens, Head of Customer Service in the North East, said: “Although we have established charity partnerships across the company, we still like to give the team a chance to raise funds for alternative local charities that are close to their hearts.
“Lesley Jackson and Samantha Milley thoughtfully arranged the dress down day, raising an impressive £833 from just one working day.
“Well done to everyone involved; it’s great to demonstrate our support for a wide range of charities and the work that they do.”
As well as the dress down day, a bake sale was held to help raise as much money as possible. All proceeds were directly donated to Alzheimer’s Society, which is the UK’s largest and most influential dementia charity.
Dan Nelson, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society in the North East, said: “It’s wonderful to see workplaces across the UK get behind our cause. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone at EDF Energy Doxford who got involved on the day. Every penny donated really does make a difference and we really do appreciate their support.
“The money raised will help us to support people living with dementia as well as campaigning on their behalf and to fund research into better support, treatments and, ultimately, find a cure.”
