Vital funding for family room at Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, as HomeServe confirms sponsorship

Leading home assistance provider HomeServe has committed to providing vital funding to help families being supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities UK in its 66 bedroom home in Birmingham.

The new HomeServe-sponsored room was officially unveiled at a special event at the home earlier this month.

Members of the Ronald McDonald House Charities UK team based in Birmingham were joined by HomeServe Membership CEO Greg Reed to celebrate the sponsorship, which will help support families backed by the charity.

The rooms at Ronald McDonald House Birmingham provide free home-away-from-home accommodation to over 800 families each year, who have seriously ill children at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Greg was on hand to officially open the new HomeServe room, which will provide en-suite accommodation so children can have their families close by for as long as they need whilst they undergo treatment.

Following the unveiling of a plaque and cutting of a red ribbon, HomeServe CEO Greg Reed said: “Ronald McDonald House Charities UK is an inspiring charity, supporting many hundreds of families 365 days a year. They were the driving force for my own personal challenge in 2018 – running 2018 miles during the year - but that was made easier knowing that those funds, as well as this donation for the new HomeServe family room, will help ease the pressure, and give these families one less thing to think about when they need it most.

“We’re proud to support the work Ronald McDonald House Charities UK is doing, and we know these funds are being used to make hundreds of families’ lives easier.”

Libby Aston, House Manager of Ronald McDonald House Birmingham, says: “We are so grateful for the support we have received and continue to receive from our friends at HomeServe. This donation will make a big difference to our work and equates to the running of one of our bedrooms for a year; on average each room will be used by 24 families each year.

“The best medical care is often not close to home, which is why the accommodation we provide is a vital life line for families with hospitalised children. We can’t do what we do without the dedication and commitment of organisations like HomeServe. We are delighted to be able to recognise this donation.”
